The Ultimate Guide to a Cozy Home

It’s about that time to break out the plush throws and curl up with your favorite book, because as the temperatures fall and the holidays quickly approach, you can’t help but get in a wintery spirit! If you wish to enhance the cozy factor in your home without sacrificing sophistication, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite ways to “cozify” interiors and create an escape during the hustle and bustle of December.

Here are my go-to’s for a fab, cozy home this holiday season:

Bring Out the Photos

I’m so grateful for how the holidays bring family and loved ones together, and hanging up a few additional memories around the home creates an extra element of comforting joy. And, if you have some downtime this holiday season, it is a great time to review your photos from the year and update the frames around your home (this is tops on my to-do list this year!).

Bedroom Lounging

A bedroom can double as a place of solace for some, and adding seating at the foot of the bed truly makes it the ideal room to curl up with a good book while sipping morning coffee (or hot coco!).

This is probably the easiest and quickest way to add loads of comfort to your home. Just picture yourself on a cold winter night, bundled up in a plush accessory like this fab throw blanket. Talk about cozy!

Warm Walls

With a couple quarts of paint, a warm and cozy space is just a few strokes away. In the design below, we added a warm plum color to the entire room and then used a pretty and dramatic wallpaper on the bed wall. The adorable and fluffy pup on the bed don’t hurt the cozy factor!

Built-in seating might take a bit more architectural planning, but they provide a petite and snug section that can add an additional element of coziness to a room. Read more here for my tips on nook installation in small and stylish rooms.

Layer on the Rugs

Rugs are a fab way to create a “snuggly” space, and layering two rugs takes it to a whole new level – double the coziness! Have fun exploring different shapes, patterns and textures to see how it blends with your style.

Plush Furniture

If I could have a plush, lounge chair and/or chaise in every room, I would! Whether you want to curl up with a good book or share it with a loved one (that includes those precious pups, too!), this piece of furniture embodies the epitome of “cozy.”

Warm Lighting

When I traveled to Austin, TX earlier this year, I had to make my traditional visit to Waltons, which is this quaint café with the perfect cozy and charming atmosphere. One particular element that warms up the space is its warm lighting. It provides a rustic appeal that makes the space so comforting.

To put this into practice, simply switch out your regular incandescent lights to Edison bulbs, and you’ll have a relaxing sanctuary within minutes.

Exposed Brick Literature Display

When making your house into a home, I recommend surrounding yourself with personal items that you love. Books, for example.  I know I recently referenced this room (below) in my renovation post, but I couldn’t help but share it once more!

Put down the phone and pick up a book!

Fluffy Pillows

Interior design is all in the details, and changing up your style with a couple of seasonal throw pillows is a quick and simple way to make your interiors ready for winter and enhances the comfort of your space (literally!).
